Christophe - Aline

Introduction

Christophe is responsible for the lyrics, composition, and performance of the song "Aline," which was published in July of 1965. It has been a massive success, placing first in sales in several countries including France, Spain, Belgium, Israel, Turkey, and Brazil, and has surpassed one million records in total sales. Of these, over 400,000 of those albums were sold in France alone.

The song was issued as a 45 rpm single by the Motors label in the summer of 1979. It had not been re-recorded or remixed before to its release, and it immediately climbed to the top of the charts in France, selling more than one million copies at the time of its release. Overall, 3.5 million copies of the album were sold in different countries throughout the world.

History of the song

In 1964, as Christophe was having lunch at his grandmother's house, he reportedly came up with the idea for the song. Within a quarter of an hour, he came up with the idea and composed it using his guitar. When the writing process, American blues served as an inspiration for the song; however, during recording, Jacques Denjean added arrangements that gave the song a more pop and variety flavor.

During the process of writing, the use of the first name Aline as a title did not occur to anybody right away. Christophe claims that he was in a relationship with a person named such in 1964 and that he thought the name was attractive. During an interview with Lui magazine in 2016, Christophe revealed that "Aline Natanovitch" was the individual in question. During the day, "Aline Natanovitch" worked as a dental assistant on the Boulevard du Montparnasse, and at night, she was in charge of the locker rooms at the Orphéon club. In his book 50 Years of French Songs, Daniel Ichbiah provides a rendition that is quite similar but goes by a slightly different name.

According to him, "Aline Latanowicz" was the lovely dentist's assistant that Christophe was with and from whom he requested for her name. Christophe was with "Aline Latanowicz" when he inquired about her name. Frédéric Zeitoun, a music journalist for France 2, claims that Christophe told him that the dentist had asked for his name as he was treating a decaying tooth, which prompted Christophe to yell "Aline" in answer to the young assistant. However, Frédéric Zeitoun strongly recommends that this narrative be regarded with some degree of suspicion.

The name "Aline Latanowicz" is mentioned in the Courrier Picard as well. Aline was born in Pas-de-Calais, and she passed away in Boulogne-Billancourt in the year 2019, when she was 77 years old.

Christophe: biography of the singer

Christophe is a pen name used by Daniel Bevilacqua, who is descended from Italians who were born in the region of Friuli. Baptiste Bevilacqua, a bricklayer and smoker, moved his family's business to Juvisy in 1891. He brought numerous of his countrymen with him to work in the family business. Several decades later, Christophe's mother, a Frenchwoman, worked as a seamstress, while his father, Georges Jacques Bevilacqua, ran a company that installed central heating and eventually became large enough to sell household equipment.

He became interested in music in the 1950s, driven by the development of rock and roll and the great French singers of the day, such as Édith Piaf, Gilbert Bécaud, and Georges Brassens, and he learned to play the guitar; music quickly took over from school, which he subsequently abandoned permanently in favor of pursuing a career in music instead. After that, Christophe assembled a group of his close friends into a band and started performing with them.

In 1963, he released his debut 45, Reviens Sophie, on the Golf Drouot label, which remained undetected by the public but enabled him to be approached by the Vogue label, with which he eventually acquired fame. His song "Aline," for which he wrote both the lyrics and the music, topped the charts in Europe in 1965 and was later covered in a variety of languages, including Italian (as well as other songs by the singer thereafter).

In 1967, he was given the opportunity to play at the Sanremo Festival with the song "Sopra I tetti azzurri del mio pazzo amore." The phrase "Above the blue roofs of my crazy love" translates directly into English as "Above the blue roofs of my crazy love." That same year, he became the father of Romain as the result of his relationship with Michèle Torr; he later married Véronique Kan, with whom he had daughter Lucie.

His fame decreased briefly in the early 1970s, at which time he acquired a mustache and styled his long blond hair the way everyone knows him now. In 1970, he co-wrote the music for Georges Lautner's film La Route de Salina (released in Italy as Quando il sole scotta), the primary theme of which was adopted by Quentin Tarantino for his Kill Bill: Volume 2 years later. In the 1970s, his fame in the rest of Europe faded, despite the fact that he continued to release albums with the label Disques Motors, which he created (and subsequently closed down in the 1980s), and then for Sony Music.

He died on the evening of April 16, 2020, in Brest, from lung emphysema caused by a severe type of COVID-19.
