It's funny, Yo Diggity was originally NOT recorded when Teddy Riley offered the song to a group called Guy. Only then was this song re-offered by Teddy Riley to Blackstreet. Teddy Riley revealed in a later interview that it was a "hard sell" to get Blackstreet to record this song. The team actually then did force Teddy himself to sing the first verse. This is kind of a Harlem "Showcase at the Apollo" move, where the group puts the smallest person out first to see if he will get egged! Luckily for all of us, in this case the trick backfired in spectacular harmony, gifting the world with this bombshell hit! In a wonderful sense of karmic relief, Yo Diggity was the song that finally knocked "Macarena" off of fourteen weeks at the top of Billboard's Top 100 list.
