Taylor Swift is a mega superstar that has long moved past the need for an introduction. The now thirty-two-year-old from West Reading, Pennsylvania has had an explosive career. A career that only seems to be growing in acclaim year after year thanks to her many hit singles and best-selling albums. A woman that is perennially topping the charts and maintaining her position as the top female music icon in the United States.

Taylor Swift was rejected by many music studios as they cited that she "didn't have any talent out of the ordinary." but this didn't stop her as her father purchased a majority stake in a music recording studio. Using this new ownership, Taylor Swift was quickly signed by the said recording studio and the rest is history.

Released in 2014, "Come Back... Be Here" is a song about unexpectedly falling in love with someone who must cut your meeting short due to needing to leave for any number of reasons.

An Unknown Love

The nature by which we are led to know about the main character's love interest's departure leads us to believe that their love is not reciprocated.

Either their love interest doesn't know of the main character's feelings or they don't share them. Stanza one begins as follows, "You said it in a simple way". If something causes a strong emotional reaction within us then we won't be saying it in a simple manner. Rather it will explode from our chest with great energy.

The next couple of lines tell us that this was either a one-night stand or just some casual dating because they go, "It is strange that I don't know you at all". This is followed by, "Just as I was about to fall.". The main character understands how weird it is to be having such strong feelings for someone that they just met and slept with. Avoiding the issue of the main character's self-respect, she clearly lets us know how far along her feelings had developed. She was just on the cusp of falling in love, a true romance being birthed, however one-sided it may seem.

That Sinking Feeling

The next couple of verses informs us of the fact that the main character knew of the potential consequences of becoming intimate with this mysterious lover. In fact, she blatantly states as much in the lines, "I did tell myself, don't get attached." and "But in my little mind I play it back.". The main character knew of the dangers and still, she persisted in becoming intimate with a near stranger, now she must pay for the consequences of her easy attitude.

Regret and the realization of incoming pain are common themes in the third verse. "This is when the feeling sinks into me...", she can tell that now the sadness will set in and it won't be pretty. Sending her into a deeper depression that could have been avoided had she not been so easy to bed. To further solidify to us that this main character has a severe lack of self-respect, she begins to beg, "Come back, be here.". Keep in mind, that this individual that she is begging to be with was but a complete stranger only a few days ago. The love and loss have both set in with great speed.

Fortunately, it does seem as if the main character has learned her lesson from playing it fast and being loose. She states, "If I had known what I know now, I never would have been so nonchalant.". This main character is direct and this is a prevailing theme throughout the song. Either this means, that this song was written for an audience that lacks the ability to see the deeper meanings in anything or it is trying to teach the listener a lesson.

Seeing as how this is an American song and as such, the audience will be predominantly Americans, both of the reasons stated above could be true. What can be stated for certain is that our main character has learned her lesson but unfortunately, she must now deal with the pain and consequences of her actions.

Lost Hope Found In Everything

Further into the song, the line "taxi cabs and busy streets" is sung. This was done to show us that the main character is reminded by everything of the one she loves. This is a very common symptom of being in love with someone if, in their absence, everything reminds you of them. This is what prolongs the pain and extends the time needed for healing.

"I do not want to miss you like this.", is repeated throughout the song constantly. Why? Simply put, the main character doesn't want every memory of their love interest to be tainted by pain and love lost. They would rather remember them in association with the good times and not with their painful departure.

The core theme of the song is that love, no matter how big or how small, no matter how long or how fleeting, can always lend itself to painful goodbyes. The scariest part of falling in love, is falling so far down that you forget how to live without it but this is also the beautiful thing about it.

The Right Choice For You?

This song is the right choice as a ring tone for you if you have ever experienced fleeting love. You know, those encounters in life with strangers that leave you wondering what could have been had you the time and place to engage with them on a deeper and more intimate level. Such times are quick and play only a minuscule part in our lives and yet they leave us with a profound effect.

This is the perfect ringtone for you if you can relate on any level to having sensed you have lost a potential opportunity when it comes to romance. A song for the heartbreaks that never got their chance to develop, premature death for a love that sadly could not come to life.
